Is it a case of poeple only write about the negatives or should I be looking at purchasing something else? Ive met a few nav owners who know nothing about the engine problem. Then the ECU fault light came on. If you look at the engine number on a machined part of the block approx 50mm x 30mm immediately behind the alternator it will be stamped YD25 plus your engine number. May well give Billcar a ring next week for more info though I've got to say the more I hear about this engine issue the more I want to steer clear.

YD25 Engine: I Have a Problem with a YD25 Engine That Does Not

Reply Page 1 of 2 1 2. D22 or L and D22 engine problems. Hi, New here so sorry if I'm very probably repeating old questions. Doing a bit of research leads me to believe that its a choice between the Mitsubishi L and the Navara, with the Navara coming out on top in reviews I've read and my personal preference. Apart from a very brief spell with a Land Rover SIII a long time ago, I have no experience of 4x4s and though I approciate the budget is not huge, this will be the most I have ever spent on a vehicle so obviously want to spend it on the right thing.

So my first question is, why would I choose a Navara over an L I appreciate I'm asking on a Navara site, but I'm guessing many owners would have asked the same question and also what should I look out for when I go and look at any to buy? My second question is, I have read some of the threads on the D22 engine problems, but would it be a case that any affected engines would have been sorted by now or is it still something to watch out for and if so how do I check? Got to be honest, its the one thing thats holding me back at the moment.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions offered. Firstly hello and welcome. If your thinking of buying a nav with the engine work already done then you need to see a paper trail of the work carried out. Anything with the name Billcar on it is a good sign. Anything with a Bradford address is very bad. Or if you can get one very cheap possibly with a blown motor your budget should more than cover a new engine from Billcar.

If you have your eye on one and your unsure if the works been done to the engine then simply make a note of the reg number and ring Billcar and they will tell you if and what work was done.

Ask to speak to Dave if you ring them. Bounce, thanks for reply. Can you clarify for me. Are you saying that all D22's need the engine work doing? Its just I thought from what I had read that after a certain engine number they were ok - have I got this wrong? Thanks for the tip on looking for the paper trail. May well give Billcar a ring next week for more info though I've got to say the more I hear about this engine issue the more I want to steer clear.

Really don't want to buy a car that needs work doing to it, but then I guess until I start looking I wont know. Its perfectly possible that any I look at may well already have the work and paperwork etc.

I take it once the work is done they are as solid as anything else? Hi, I had one of the early Ls,a one, non turbo, my 03 d22 uses less diesel. Never liked the later ones and they are thirstier than the nav. All YD engines in the d22 are prone to exploding.! Dont take for granted that the work would have been done. Ive met a few nav owners who know nothing about the engine problem. I also know a few l owners who hate them.

Very thirsty, drive like a boat and unreliable. If you bought a nav and had the engine work done apart from daily wear and tear issues and it looking a bit dated next to some if the newer stuff you would have a very reliable truck. Dont be put off by the dated thing though because you can bring them up to date with a few subtle changes.

Bought my d22 and found out about the bottom end problem via this site and glad I did really happy with the truck but not going to wait for it to go bang. So took it bilcar last year and had the work done money very well spent now I don't worry I just enjoy my truck, it's a fantastic bit of kit and will last me many years. Upto your onto a winner with the MK1 after that is when you need to be careful.
