  • In February , a recall was issued for Nissan D40 Navara utilities due to problems with the fitment of the lower steering shaft which could result in the shaft .

Be wary of buying a D40 ST Navara. I have had I was sick of the problems including six clutch replacements since new. After six weeks of it.

1/ Is anyone aware of ANY problems here in Australia. The UK website that lists over 20 issues with the new navara D40 (majority clutch) is.

All makes and models have their issues and all of them have their success stories, however you are far better off reading model specific forums where solutions are usually offered along with the reporting of issues. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Toyota Kluger V6 petrol though. Had about km on it then now has km.

    Navara D40 - problems? or good vehicle? - 4WD Chat - Australia4WD Forum

Navara D40 turbo diesel - problems????? Have test driven all vehicles and love the Navara in most aspects. These are not one offs - In one forum I saw a list of over 20 separate reports from very disgruntled owners!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have spoken to a Nissan dealer in Australia regarding the issues who disregarded these reports - basically next to useless and in the end actually walked away from me.

He did however tell me that the australian delivered Navaras have a stronger H beam chassis. What I would like to know is: It is still just a little motor pulling a big truck and most times from what Ive seen big campers and boats. IMHO, I beleive these little motors will not last as long as the bigger motors.

Its the physics of things, Imagine two weight liffters, one bloke weighs in at 60 kilo, and the other bloke weighs in at k. They both can lift the 55kg weight, but who has to work twice as hard to lift it. Something to think about. I log onto a lot of navara and frontier U. There were a few problems with the 05 models, mines 05 and i have done 20 kms with out any major problems. There has been 3 recalls, 2 were done at the same time, took 1 hour and one a month later took 2 hours.

How old are the reports? I know of one guy with an 05 who wrecked his clutch while driving on the beach. Heres a couple of forums you should check out. These common rail diesels have been around in europe for longer with little problems but not on large 4 x 4's Cheers.

I emailed nissan customer service and when I eventually got a reply, and do mean eventually. They basically said that this issue was addressed in manufacturing. Read between the lines and it tells me it was a Quality control issue, my opinion anyway. As for the small motor working hard, technology it a wonderful thing, somtimes scarey.

Got a mate who had the same opinion, that is until he drove my D These engines are a long way from working hard. I do have more technical reasons for my theory To long to explain. I have done ks in mine so far no probs touch wood. If you buy a nissan get used to it, Winge all you like they dont care. S my last car was a 02 GU 4. My old boys D40 has done aprox 10 km and has had some problems including a gear box rebuild but it seems to come down to poor QC in the factory as his gear box failed from being put together incorrectly according to Nissan but thats a piss weak excuse after you out lay over 40g on a 4by, Biggest problem seems to be dealing with Nissan more then the vehicle it self.

As far as a ute goes the D40 diesel stx is a bloody nice 4by but don't buy it to go hard core it just simply isn't meant for it but how many are now days?? Only reason I'd go Toyota is for finished overall product they are put together that bit better but I don't think they are any stronger. As I mentioned previously a Nissan dealer did say to me that the Australian model has a toughened H beam chassis??????????

Unfortunately I don't necessarily believe this as I have had personal dealings with other Nissan dealers that were not all that pleasant to say the least. This is a shame as I have no other reason to disbelieve!! Does anyone know how Corby and Tony got on in the end resolving their D40 issues. I was keen to look at the BT50 but it is also "fly by wire throttle" which after the d40 i will not even consider it.
