One of my passengers jammed shut the glove compartment and now it won't open. I can hear the latch device moving when I push the open button but the glove box won't open. The passengers side of the glove box is flush with the console. Any ideas as to how to open the glove box? Any more suggestions before I call service? Dan - I have a mid MS. Looking at the latch mechanism, it is actually two spring loaded pins, one on each side. Now when I say pin, the pins are actually about 8 cm or so squarish in shape, so decent size. The are located on the sides. From the upper edge of the door as seen from the front face, they are a little less than a fob's length down from the top edge.

The pins protrude out from the door and engage into a hole in the outer frame. When you push the open button, there is actually a plunger mechanism in the frame that extends to depress the spring loaded pin in the door.

If you are hearing a click when you push the button, then sounds like something has jammed the pins from retracting. This could be due to the force that's pushing the door out from the inside, so that's where TeslaTap's suggestion to push on the door might unload them so the pin will retract.

Given the size and engagement of the pins, and the amount of overlap of the door to the edge, it looks really difficult as to how you'd be able to pass something around the edge to disengage the pins. I'm not sure if Tesla designed this intentionally to make it difficult to pry open, but looks like they actually have a design that is very good at achieving that result. I do think the best bet is to try pushing in on the door as near the areas of the pins as possible while you push the button.

However you'll need to time releasing your force on the door to the sound of the click as the unlatch mechanism "pops" and immediately retracts. Even if you keep your finger pressed on the button, the plungers that push the pins to disengage don't stay extended, but appear to immediately spring back. Thanks for the detailed and careful suggestions! I tried a flexible ruler which seems to be able to able to engage a pin from the right side. It feels as if the ruler encounters a rounded or beveled tip--but since the ruler fits tightly between door and frame, it can't be pulled out just as the button is pushed.

Both I and the OP back in March were left with the door angled, outwards on the left driver's side, so perhaps only one of the two pins you describe was jammed.
