A place for Mercedes-Benz fans to meet, share stories, news, pictures and other interesting information about our beloved brand. Bought my first Mercedes! What are some common issues with the W CLS? I'm also getting it tuned! If you are asking people about problems after you already bought it, you are asking the audience to give you remorse I would enjoy the awesome ride, rather than ask people to tell me that I bought a bad car No, I did a lot of research before. Worst case scenario is the air suspension going out.

But I was just wondering if other people who had own this car has any other problems with it. Airmatic failed in the front , big bill about CDN and that's me with shop discount from local merchants and not having to pay labour because my friends are mechanics. I'm sure the newer Mercs have more reliable ones but I'm still pretty iffy about buying a merc with airmatic. I just got an 09 e, and after reading the forums, I'm glad I didn't get the with the airmatic.

Other than that, no problems for 90k miles. Leaking air suspension is pretty common. They make kits to switch over to springs if you want to go that route. Probably just self leveling. The problem is when you come out to your car and it looks like it's laying on the ground. It's interesting to me that you follow up a question about reliability of the M with a statement about tuning it that I take to mean engine software change for more power. While major provider tunes are generally regarded as safe enough no reports of catastrophic engines failures , it is unlikely that they provide better long-term reliability than the stock factory software.

For the M especially, the major power gains are from increasing the boost, and that always sacrifices reliability. I was just wondering how reliable the engine is. If it is reliable enough than I would give it a better tune. I was thinking giving it downpipes and getting it dyno tuned. Also get your plugs gapped to. Use OEM plugs and change them on 15kk interval if going tuned. I have a E63s and my car makes the same noise when walking away and towards the car with keyless goo.

Use forums to search for issues in the future as well! Finally someone who owns a similar vehicle is giving me useful suggestions. I was thinking about getting it dyno tuned at one of the best tuning places in Arizona, one of their tuners used to work at Renntech so they get a lot of Mercedes. I'm thinking about getting down pipes and a tune. And what does gapping the spark plugs do, not so familiar with that part? Do you own the W E63s? That's one of my favorite cars, it's badass!

Renntech offers a version of their tune for 91 octane fuel. It has lower peak power and torque, but it is still a sizable increase from stock. That means lots of shared parts that are good enough for the more powerful AMG engine. However, an engine that's more stressed is always going to be less reliable than one less stressed. You just need to figure out what kind of reliability you can accept.

Yup I found out about the small tune today. It won't make nearly as much power as a custom tune plus downpipes est. My car is lower than 57, miles I just hope with it tuned it would still last me to ,miles or when I have the money to get myself a w E63 with the M bi-turbo. You're failing to consider one thing, which is the one factor which prevented me from getting the Renntech tune on my '14 CLS Sure, the M and M share components, but the 7 speed tranny in the CLS simply cannot handle that amount of torque.

If you go with the full tune, to is a huge jump, you will definitely shorten the lifespan of the transmission significantly. That doesn't sound like a whole lot, but you have to consider this: I'm not saying this tune is going to blow up your car as soon as your floor it, but you will, without a doubt, shorten the lifespan of many components.

I know its heartbreaking to hear this, as I was in a similar situation myself a year ago. If you're willing to take the risk, go for it, you will have an insanely powerful car. Just enjoy the car stock, keep saving, and get a proper AMG when you can. It will be that much more special. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy.
